(Alliance News) - American Airlines Group Inc on Tuesday announced its intention for Alaska Airlines Inc to join its Atlantic and Pacific joint businesses.
American is an airline based in Fort Worth, Texas, while Alaska is a Seattle, Washington-based firm.
The Atlantic and Pacific joint businesses are revenue-sharing and route-coordination partnerships.
"Joining these joint businesses would put Alaska on equal footing with its competitors by giving our guests more seamless access to international destinations while preserving the care, loyalty benefits and premium experience they expect from Alaska," said Alaska's Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Harrison.
Formed in 2010, the Atlantic Joint Business encompasses several airlines including British Airways and Iberia, both of which are owned by London-headquartered International Consolidated Airlines Group SA.
The Pacific Joint Businesses was established shortly after between American and Tokyo-based Japan Airlines Co Ltd.
"For more than 15 years, the Atlantic Joint Business has delivered greater choice, better connectivity and a more seamless travel experience across the North Atlantic. Alaska Airlines will further strengthen the partnership and help expand travel options on both sides of the Atlantic," said Julio Rodriguez Contreras, International Consolidated Airlines Group's chief commercial strategy officer
Shares in American closed 0.7% higher at USD13.61 each in New York on Tuesday, while International Consolidated Airlines ended 0.2% higher at 438.00 pence each in London that same day.
