AG Barr To Invest GBP4 Million In High-Speed Carton Production Line

30th May 2014 13:58

LONDON (Alliance News) - Scottish soft drinks maker AG Barr PLC Friday said it is relocating its in-house carton production capacity in Wales to its Milton Keynes facility, where it will invest GBP4 million in a new high-speed carton production line, to boost efficiency, support demand and future capacity.

AG Barr's current in-house carton capacity is located at its Tredegar site in Wales, which it is proposing to close, subject to employee consultation, at the end of January 2015.

The Irn-Bru drinks maker said that after successfully completing the first phase of development at the Milton Keynes site, it will now invest GBP4 million in the high-speed carton production line, including GBP2 million of capital costs, in relocating its in-house carton capacity to Milton Keynes and upgrading production capability.

AG Barr currently employs 67 people at the Tredegar factory. It said it expects 27 new jobs to be created as a result of the site transfer.

"The company will do everything possible to support those affected throughout the process. Where possible, employees will be offered the opportunity to relocate to Milton Keynes," the company said in a statement.

The company said the move will support current demand and boost capacity, and will provide flexibility for its core packaging format primarily for its Rubicon and KA juice brands.

AG Barr shares were trading 2.3% higher Friday afternoon at 635.00 pence.
