14 government buildings close across the UK in bid to save cash

13th Jul 2026 15:53

(Alliance News) - Some 14 government buildings across the UK were closed in the last year as part of a savings drive.

Temple Chambers and 10 Victoria Street in London have both been emptied while Bridge House in Guildford and 7 Park Row in Leeds were also exited after the lease expired in 2025.

Shuttering 10 Victoria Street alone is expected to save GBP8.8 million a year while the wider changes are said to contribute to a GBP43.1 million reduction in costs across the government estate.

Minister Anna Turley said: "By reducing our reliance on inefficient London offices, we are creating a leaner, fairer government estate that belongs to the whole country.

"We have reshaped our estate to drive economic growth in every region, ensuring a career in the Civil Service is accessible to talent right across the UK, not just within Whitehall."
