IAP Icap PLC Investor Summary
ICAP is a company specialising in delivering services to businesses and companies within the financial sector. ICAP acts as a broker offering services and products within categories such as interest rates, foreign exchange, data and commentary.
ICAP is an international and global company dealing within firmly established markets and newer emerging opportunities and markets. The company's clients include large commercial banks and investment businesses. ICAP develops global links and connectivity in a modern age and provides a highly specialised broker service in the competitive financial markets.
The company was the result of a merger between Garban plc and Intercapital plc in 1999 and was formerly called Garban-Intercapital plc, changing its name to ICAP plc in 2001. A reverse takeover in 1998 allowed Exco plc to acquire broking operations of IPGL. The benefits of the merger were that strength in corporate and government services could be combined with expertise surrounding interest rates and foreign exchange services.
Intercapital was originally established by Michael Spencer in 1986, with most attention given to interest rates swaps opportunites. Intercapital experienced rapid growth, from four individuals to over three hundred staff with international trade and offices.
Garban plc initially began as Harlow Meyer & Co in the 1950s. Expanding from the UK to America in the 1960s they became part of MAI plc seventeen years later. Following several mergers and acquisitions, Garban plc was listed on the London Stock Exchange and available for share purchase in 1998.
The company aims to continue providing its services to set an industry standard at a fair price developed through collaboration with people and technology.
