Walcom launches Alpha Project ('α-Project')
Walcom (AIM: WALG) is please to announce that at the VIV China 2009 ("VIV"), which was held at the China International Exhibition Centre in Beijing between 19 October and 21 October 2009, the Company launched its 'α-Project', a cost-optimised solution for compound feed, which was the culmination of six years of research by the Company. Professor Yang Hongxun, Technical Director of Walcom, presented a report describing the new initiative at the VIV Animal Nutrition Forum.
The Board believes that the new range of products which are being launched under the 'α-Project' will play an important role in animal digestion, absorption and utilisation of feed. They are expected to significantly improve energy and protein nutrient utilisation efficiency, thus enhancing animal productivity through physiological regulation and proprietary positional enzymatic dissolution functions. The Company's research work has enabled it to design a dietary formulation with reduced nutrient levels which yields the required growth rates in animals to help the Company's customers reduce costs and improve profitability. To coincide with the launch of the 'α-Project', the Company has re-branded its products and marketing materials.
During this uncertain cycle in the economy, the Board is aware that both existing and potential customers are looking for ways to reduce their high feed costs. The Board is confident that Walcom's 'α-Project' can help feed companies to control costs by utilising the Company's cost-optimisation program.

Walcom's products are based on Cysteamine, a natural metabolite generated in animals' bodies which participates in animals' physiological 'growth axis' to stimulate the animals' natural growth hormone level. The Company's feed additives improve the health of the animals, reduce mortality rates, shorten the time taken to reduce maturity, increase the protein content in animal food products, increase egg laying and reduce eggshell breakage and build resistance to disease. Walcom's feed additives are 'non hormonal', 'non antibiotic' and 'non gene-altering'.
