Serco awarded Virginia traffic management contract

Serco Group plc (Serco), the international service company, announces today theaward of a new contract to integrate and operate Virginia Department ofTransportation's (VDOT) transportation operation centres, manage the SafetyService Patrol, and develop and implement a state-wide advanced trafficmanagement system. The contract has a six-year base period valued at $355m andthree two-year option periods. Work is expected to begin during the thirdquarter of 2013.

Following yesterday's approval by the Commonwealth Transportation Board,Commissioner Gregory Whirley signed the Transportation Operations Center andState-wide Advanced Traffic Management Systems contract. Under this contractSerco will support VDOT as it moves from its existing traffic managementsystems to a single advanced, real-time, state-wide solution that oversees57,000 miles of roadway. Serco will: develop and deploy the software solution;manage control room operations at five centres; install and maintainIntelligent Transportation System (ITS) equipment; manage incident andemergency responses; dispatch safety patrol and maintenance crews to respond toincidents; manage High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) and reversible lanes; providereal-time information to emergency responders; and coordinate signal systems.

Serco has provided traffic management services around the world, includingactive traffic management and intelligent transportation systems in the UK, andtraffic/tunnel controls in Hong Kong. The Company also supports Georgia'sDepartment of Transportation intelligent transportation systems and parking andenforcement services throughout the country.
