Verizon Wireless customers in Utah can now access e-mail, everydaycorporate data, the Internet and more at faster speeds, and uploadfiles five to six times faster than before as Verizon Wireless rollsout the next-generation of its high-speed broadband network in SaltLake City, West Valley City and Provo. Based on CDMA 1x Evolution-DataOptimized (EV-DO) Revision (Rev.) A technology, the enhanced wirelessbroadband network provides Verizon Wireless customers in areas withinthe Salt Lake City metro area with data uplink speeds significantlyfaster than the company's award-winning national EV-DO network, whichthe company rolled out in Salt Lake City in December 2005. £ The faster network coverage area extends along the Wasatch Frontfrom Provo to Salt Lake City, including the Salt Lake City airport, providing Verizon Wireless customers with faster access for sendingand uploading data. £ The company's existing EV-DO network allows customers to accessBroadbandAccess over their laptops and their email on their PDAs, andV CAST Video and Music over their phones. The company's nationalwireless broadband network, the first in the nation, is alreadyavailable to more than 200 million Americans in 242 major metropolitanareas and 180 major airports from coast to coast. £ "Our existing wireless broadband network has enabled customers towork remotely and stay entertained in unprecedented ways; now we'retaking wireless to the next level by introducing Rev. A technologythat helps them work even faster and enjoy a more robust wireless dataexperience," said Melanie Braidich, regional president of VerizonWireless. £ The company's flagship business data service, BroadbandAccess, will run faster and more efficiently with the new networkenhancements. For example, BroadbandAccess customers inenhanced wireless broadband coverage areas can expect average downloadspeeds of 450-800 kilobits per second (kbps) and average upload speedsof 300-400 kbps, translating to being able to download a 1 megabytee-mail attachment - the equivalent of a small PowerPoint(R)presentation or a large PDF file - in less than 15 seconds and uploadthe same size file in less than 25 seconds. The enhanced networkcoverage areas allow Verizon Wireless customers to download filesapproximately six times faster than customers of wireless serviceproviders who use non-EV-DO technology. £ The first two devices from Verizon Wireless that take advantage offaster speeds provided by these new network enhancements are the newcompact USB720 wireless modem and the AirCard 595 PC card from VerizonWireless, which are fully compatible and backward compatible with thecompany's enhanced and existing wireless broadband networks and thecompany's NationalAccess network (based on CDMA 1xRTT technology).Utah customers purchasing either device will be able to getsignificantly faster upload speeds and improved download speeds whenin an enhanced network coverage area.
