Verizon Wireless customers in Arizona can now access e-mail,everyday corporate data, the Internet and more at faster speeds - andupload files eight to nine times faster than before. £ Verizon Wireless is rolling out the next generation of itshigh-speed broadband network in greater Phoenix and Tucson. £ Based on CDMA 1x Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A (Rev.A) technology, the enhanced wireless broadband network providesVerizon Wireless customers in areas within greater Phoenix and Tucsonwith data uplink speeds significantly faster than the company'saward-winning national EV-DO network. £ The faster network coverage area includes metro Phoenix includingthe communities of Scottsdale, Tempe, Gilbert, Chandler, Mesa,Glendale and Peoria. In southern Arizona, the coverage area includesthe communities of Tucson, Sahuarita, Vail, Green Valley, Oro Valley,Marana and Catalina. £ Verizon Wireless' national wireless broadband network, the firstin the nation, is already available to more than 200 million people in242 major metropolitan areas and 180 major airports from coast tocoast. £ The company's existing EV-DO network enables customers to accessBroadbandAccess on their laptops, e-mail on their PDAs, and V CASTVideo and Music on their wireless phones. £ "Arizona customers are already enjoying the benefits of ourbroadband wireless network. A technology that helps customers work even fasterand enjoy a more robust wireless data experience," said Tony Heyman,regional president of Verizon Wireless. £ "The launch of this next generation of our high-speed broadbandnetwork is part of our ongoing, significant investment in the state ofArizona." £ The company's flagship business data service, BroadbandAccess,will run faster and more efficiently with the new networkenhancements. £ Customers in enhanced coverage areas can take advantage of uploadspeeds that are eight to nine times faster than with the company'sexisting wireless broadband network, plus interact with Web-basedapplications with improved latency for a better customer experience. £ The network provides Verizon Wireless customers with faster accessfor sending and uploading data. £ For example, BroadbandAccess customers in enhanced wirelessbroadband coverage areas can expect average download speeds of 600kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits and average upload speedsof 500-800 kbps. This translates to being able to download a 1Megabyte e-mail attachment - the equivalent of a small PowerPoint(R)presentation or a large PDF file - in about eight seconds and uploadthe same-sized file in less than 13 seconds. £ The enhanced network coverage areas allow Verizon Wirelesscustomers to download files approximately six times faster thancustomers of wireless service providers who use non-EV-DO technology. £ Devices that take advantage of Verizon Wireless' wirelessbroadband network include the new V740 ExpressCard, the compact USB720wireless modem, the AirCard 595 and PC5750 PC Card.
