2 April 2014 UTV AWARDED SOUTH AFRICAN BROADCASTING LICENCE UTV Media (GB) Limited, a subsidiary of UTV Media plc (UTV) - along with itsfour joint venture partners - has been awarded a broadcast licence by theIndependent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) to launch SouthAfrica's first 24-hour sports radio station talkSPORT 540AM. talkSPORT International broadcasts live Barclays Premier League commentary in 8languages to 24 countries around the world and this new licence will furtherstrengthen talkSPORT's growing international appeal. The medium wave licence will broadcast to a potential audience of eight millionpeople covering Gauteng province and taking in the commercial andadministrative hubs of Johannesburg and Pretoria. talkSPORT 540AM will bemodelled on UTV's London based station talkSPORT - the world's biggest sportradio station - and will deliver first class sports journalism, high qualitydebate and live match commentary to the South African audience. The successful consortium comprises five joint venture partners each holding20% equity in the new station. The in-depth local knowledge of the four SouthAfrican partners is complemented by talkSPORT's expertise and experience indriving audiences through the delivery of attractive, sports led content.
