ERT's US licensee secures major order
Environmental Recycling Technologies plc (AIM: ENRT), the patent rights holder to the Powder Impression Moulding ("PIM") process which is capable of converting mixed waste plastics into commercially viable products, is pleased to announce that its North American licencee, Brown Water Plastics ("BWP"), a 100% subsidiary of James Marine Inc, has secured a first milestone order for barge covers produced by BWP using ERT's PIM technology, worth significantly in excess of £1million to BWP.
This order follows a resurrection in the fortunes of the North American barge freight industry which has benefitted from the bumper 2013 North American grain harvest and the improved economic backdrop. The contrasts sharply with the previous year when the industry had faced the combination of a weak 2012 harvest and floods on the Mississippi. BWP expects to secure further significant orders, which are currently under negotiation.
Following the increased demand for new barges, barge covers and barge repairs, BWP has initiated the development of a range of new products manufactured using ERT's PIM technology which it is currently market testing. These new products, which are at various stages of development which are beyond the scope of the existing licence, as well as in new sectors unconnected to the barge industry, such as rail and road transport. New licences will be required from ERT to enable BWP to manufacture and sell these products which will expand the BWP product range.
ERT's Managing Director, Lee Clayton said:
"We are particularly pleased that our US licensee, BWP, has secured this major order for barge covers and are encouraged by the prospects for additional orders. The barge covers are the largest single piece structure made using our PIM process and possibly one of the largest single piece plastic structures ever made. We are also delighted that BWP is evaluating a range of additional products manufactured using our novel PIM process."
