Plant Impact's PiNT technology - Updated trial results show positive environmental benefits

Plant Impact plc (AIM: PIM), which develops and markets ecologically friendly crop nutrition and protection products, announces that it has received updated results from the USDA on trials using products from the Company's nitrogen (PiNT) technology. The Board believes these findings potentially create new market opportunities for the PiNT product range in the USA.

The trials show that PiNT technology:

·; uses 25% less nitrogen than competing technologies;

·; allows crops to retain nitrogen for longer; and

·; may reduce nitrogen leaching into watercourses.

Independent research carried out by the US Department of Agriculture ("USDA") and published in the Congress Proceedings, supports the use of Plant Impact's unique nitrogen fertiliser technology (PiNT) on turf grass. The USDA's findings were reported at the World Soil Science Congress in Australia on 4 August 2010.

The Board believes that home and gardens, golf courses and outfield turf management represent major potential USA markets for PiNT, which helps turf grass retain nitrogen for longer. Turf grass that can retain sufficient nitrogen shows improved colour and vigour, root-to-shoot ratios and disease resistance. In addition improved nitrogen retention leads to reduced nitrate run-off and pollution of waterways and coastal regions which in turn has environmental benefits.

The research carried out by scientists from the USDA and Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, Pennsilvania State University over two years shows that PiNT outperformed comparison fertilisers, producing higher quality turf with greater nitrogen use efficiency. Where PiNT was used, the application rate could be reduced by up to 25 per cent. whilst still achieving comparable growth and nitrogen uptake to the conventional product. USDA scientists measured turf colour and intensity, grass growth and nitrogen uptake.

Peter Blezard, CEO, commented: "The USDA research provides further validation of our PiNT product, which will support our efforts to market this product to new sectors."

About PiNT Technology

Nitrogen is central to increasing plant yields to feed the world's growing population, however current nitrogen fertilisers are very inefficient. Plant Impact's PiNT technology takes amine Nitrogen and binds it into a complex which resists leaching and allows plants to access nitrogen in a form they can utilise to build strong healthy growth.

PiNT technology is a unique controlled nitrogen release technology that promotes improved growth habit and vigour. It slows the natural breakdown of desirable amine and ammonium nitrogen to undesirable nitrate and unlocks essential elements around the roots, even in calcareous or high pH soils making them ready for efficient uptake by the plant.

Our unique PiNT products are PiNT Calcium and PiNT Potassium.

PiNT Features

·; controlled nitrogen 'uptake' system that slows down the breakdown of amine;

·; nitrogen is taken up by the plant in its most useful form as amine and ammonium;

·; reduces the amounts converted to nitrates by soil micro-organisms;

·; decreases the leaching potential into ground water; and

·; aids reduction of high salinity in both soils and water.

PiNT nitrogen products are highly efficient giving superior performance compared with traditional nitrogen fertilisers and meet new government and industry standards for nitrogen.

About Plant Impact plc

Plant Impact develops and markets ecologically friendly crop nutrition and crop protection products. These products improve crop yields by reducing plant stresses caused by temperature, salinity, drought and light. The Company sells its products directly and through licensing agreements with international agrochemical companies. The Directors believe that Plant Impact is differentiated from its competitors by marketing effective and environmentally friendly products.

Plant Impact has four key technologies marketed initially to the high value fruit and vegetable crop sectors; Bug Oil, CaT, PiNT and Speedo. The next two years will be dominated by CaT and PiNT sales to existing markets, and BugOil milestone payments in advance of its international roll out through Arysta, a global top ten agrochemical company.
