Update on Kemerkol Legal Claim
The Board of Victoria Oil & Gas Plc (AIM:VOG), the AIM quoted oil and gas exploration company, today announces an update to the press release lodged on 16 March 2009.
The Supervisory Panel of the Atyrau Oblast Court has decided not to refer the claim made against the Company's Kazakh subsidiary to the Atyrau Economic Court for reconsideration. This decision was taken despite a letter of protest to the Supervisory Court from the Kazakh General Prosecutor supporting VOG's appeal. VOG is currently assessing the best course of action for a further appeal in Kazakhstan.
The Company still has the option of progressing its claim for damages for breach of contract against Ms. Olga Elefteriadi in the UK courts. VOG has already obtained a judgement against her. Further information will be provided in due course.
Commenting on the decision, Kevin Foo, Chairman of VOG, said today, "Once again the lower court in Kazakhstan has ignored our claim, even with the support of the office of the General Prosecutor. We will continue the fight until our rightful title to the Kemerkol field has been restored."
