Scottish & Southern Energy PLC21 December 2007 SCOTTISH AND SOUTHERN ENERGY PLC UK'S SECOND LARGEST SUPPLIER OF ENERGY Scottish and Southern Energy plc ("SSE") has overtaken EON UK to become the UK'ssecond largest supplier of electricity and gas, according to the DatamonitorMarket Share Monitor. Its analysis of all electricity and gas customer accounts shows that SSE hadjust over 8.1 million customers as at 31 October 2007, over 130,000 more thanEON UK. In the time since then, SSE's electricity and gas customer numbers havegrown further, to 8.2 million. In addition, SSE also has 200,000 telecoms andgas boiler maintenance customers, taking its total number of customers to 8.4million. This means SSE has gained 3.9 million customers since the start of2002, when it was the UK's fifth largest energy supplier. SSE supplies energy as Scottish Hydro Electric, Southern Electric, SWALEC andAtlantic. In October 2007, uSwitch.com reported that it was ranked top forcustomer satisfaction for the fourth time in a row in its independent CustomerSatisfaction Report. In November 2007, in the results of the JD Power 2007 UKElectricity and Gas Customer Satisfaction Study, SSE was ranked the topperforming supplier in both electricity and gas. Ian Marchant, Chief Executive of SSE, said: "I am delighted that the hard work by teams of people throughout SSE hasresulted in us passing the milestone of becoming the UK's second largest energysupplier. "The sustained growth which we have achieved in the last few years has been theresult of providing best-in-sector service and consistently adopting a policy ofresponsible pricing against a backdrop of volatile wholesale energy markets. "We want to increase customer numbers further, and will seek to do so throughmore improvements in customer service, a continued policy of responsible pricingand good product development."
