TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 208,202 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 31 August and 3 September 2012, in respect of the Company's share plans.

Following the transfer, Anglo American plc has a total of 15,063,672 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,390,393,500 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
