TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 2,068 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 31 August and 1 September 2011, in respect of the grant of awards and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfer, Anglo American plc has a total of 19,795,459 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,323,170,269 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
