TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 6,811 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 13 April 2012, in respect of the grant of awards and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 15,425,348 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,327,545,644 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
