TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFER

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4 Anglo American plc announces that on 10 September 2010, 10,000 shares were transferred out of the Company's holding of treasury shares in order to satisfy maturing share options under the Company's ESOS plan.

Following the transfer, Anglo American plc has a total of 23,426,683 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,319,504,605 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
