TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that on 22 December 2010, 18,250 shares were transferred out of the Company's holding of treasury shares in order to satisfy maturing share options under the Company's ESOS plan.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 22,927,066 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,320,005,648 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
