TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 3,220,862 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 24 and 27 February 2012, in respect of the grant of awards and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 16,089,080 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,326,879,819 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
