TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 16,328 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 11 and 12 October 2011, in respect of the grant of awards and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfer, Anglo American plc has a total of 19,695,199 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,323,272,259 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
