TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 16,236 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 8 and 9 November 2011, in respect of the grant of awards and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfer, Anglo American plc has a total of 19,641,726 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,323,325,732 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
