GENERAL TEXT AMENDMENT

The following amendments have been made to the TREASURY STOCK announcement released on 4 January 2013 at 15:32pm under RNS No 8900U

- 6,569 ordinary shares transferred from treasury shares

- 14,498,551 ordinary shares held in treasury following the transfer

- 1,390,961,202 ordinary shares in issue

TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 6,569 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 3rd and 4th January 2013 in respect of the Company's share plans.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 14,498,551 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,390,961,202 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
