TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that 43,431 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 21 and 22 March 2011, in respect of the grant of awards and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 21,215,760 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,321,718,090 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
