TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that 868 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 29 May 2012 in respect of the grant and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfer, Anglo American plc has a total of 15,372,664 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,390,082,269 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
