TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFER

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that on 28 October 2010 2,233 shares were transferred out of the Company's holding of treasury shares in order to satisfy maturing share options under the Company's ESOS plan.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 23,225,093 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,319,707,621 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
