TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 63,500 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 7 and 8 March 2012, in respect of the grant of awards and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 15,966,130 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,327,002,769 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
