TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that 5,500 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 6 April 2011, in respect of the grant of awards and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 20,506,952 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,322,428,079 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
