TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that 1,216,112 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 1 and 2 March 2011, in respect of the grant of awards and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 21,437,409 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,321,496,441 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
