TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 14,560 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 08 August 2012 and 09 August 2012 in respect of the Company's share plans.

Following the transfer, Anglo American plc has a total of 15,281,242 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,390,175,930 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
