TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 59,188 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 7 September and 10 September 2012 in respect of the Company's share plans.

Following the transfer, Anglo American plc has a total of 14,989,484 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,390,467,688 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
