TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFER

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4 Anglo American plc announces that on 1 September 2010, 216,425 shares were transferred out of the Company's holding of treasury shares in order to satisfy maturing share options under the Company's SAYE plan.

Following the transfer, Anglo American plc has a total of 23,464,661 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,319,466,627 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
