TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 29,900 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 16 and 19 March 2012, in respect of the grant of awards and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 15,820,289 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,327,148,610 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
