TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that 6,406 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 10 and 11 May 2011, in respect of the grant of awards and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 20,486,027 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,322,449,004 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
