TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 7,513 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on the 8th and 10th June 2011, in respect of the grant of awards and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 20,415,038 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,322,545,593 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
