TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that on 13th and 14th December 2010, 9,000 and 9,908 shares respectively were transferred out of the Company's holding of treasury shares in order to satisfy maturing share options under the Company's ESOS and SAYE plans.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 22,945,316 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,319,987,398 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
