TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 14,292 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 22 and 23 August 2011, in respect of the grant of awards and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfer, Anglo American plc has a total of 19,797,527 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,323,168,201 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
