TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 3,000 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 23 January 2013 in respect of the Company's share plans.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 14,438,482 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,391,023,964 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
