TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that on 7 December 2010 596, 7,880 and 4,077 shares were transferred out of the Company's holding of treasury shares in order to satisfy maturing share options under the Company's SAYE, ESOS and SIP plans respectively. The Company further announces that on 8 December 2010, 1,008 shares were transferred out of the Company's holding of treasury shares in order to satisfy maturing share options under the Company's ESOS plan.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 22,995,124 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,319,937,590 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
