TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that on 6th January 2011, 6,500 shares were transferred out of the Company's holding of treasury shares in order to satisfy maturing share options under the Company's ESOS plan.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 22,844,078 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,320,089,772 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
