TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that 1,611 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 3 July 2012 in respect of the grant and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfer, Anglo American plc has a total of 15,311,578 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,390,145,594 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
