Smith & Nephew Plc12 March 2008 Smith & Nephew PLC 12 March 2008 Smith & Nephew PLC - Transaction in Own Shares Smith & Nephew PLC announces that on 12 March 2008 it transferred 484,517ordinary shares of US$0.20 to Abacus Corporate Trustee Limited, the Trustee ofthe Smith & Nephew 2004 Employees' Share Trust. The shares will be used tosatisfy options and awards under the 2004 Senior Executive Share Plans. The transferred shares were all formerly held as Treasury Shares. Following the above transfer, Smith & Nephew PLC holds 57,594,483 ordinaryshares in treasury, and has 890,612,302 ordinary shares in issue (excludingtreasury shares).
