Transaction in own shares

SOCO announces that on 15 December 2011 it purchased 70,000 of its ordinary shares at an average price of 285.0247 pence per ordinary share. The highest price and the lowest price paid for these shares were 289.7 pence and 281.6 pence respectively. All the purchased shares will be held as Treasury shares.

Following the above purchase, SOCO holds 1,346,918 ordinary shares as Treasury shares. The total number of ordinary shares in issue is 339,192,534 (excluding ordinary shares held as treasury shares).
