TRANSACTION IN OWN SHARES

Kazakhmys PLC announces that on 14 December 2011 it purchased from Citigroup Global Markets U.K. Equity Limited 115,000 ordinary shares at an average price of 871.8287 pence per share. The highest price paid was 896.0 pence per share and the lowest price paid was 846.5 pence per share. The purchased shares will be held as treasury shares. Following the above purchase, Kazakhmys PLC holds 4,902,168 ordinary shares in treasury and has 530,515,793 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares).
