TRANSACTION IN OWN SHARES

Kazakhmys PLC announces that on 21 December 2011 it purchased from J.P. Morgan Securities Ltd. 111,000 ordinary shares at an average price of 895.4862 pence per share. The highest price paid was 904.0 pence per share and the lowest price paid was 881.5 pence per share. The purchased shares will be held as treasury shares. Following the above purchase, Kazakhmys PLC holds 5,472,103 ordinary shares in treasury and has 529,945,858 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares).
