TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 2,405 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 13 December 2011, in respect of the grant of awards and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfer, Anglo American plc has a total of 19,550,765 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,323,416,693 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
