TRANSACTION IN OWN SHARES

Kazakhmys PLC announces that on 9 January 2012 it purchased from J.P. Morgan Securities Ltd. 101,400 ordinary shares at an average price of 985.6651 pence per share. The highest price paid was 995.0 pence per share and the lowest price paid was 977.5 pence per share. The purchased shares will be held as treasury shares. Following the above purchase, Kazakhmys PLC holds 5,916,000 ordinary shares in treasury and has 529,501,961 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares).
