TRANSACTION IN OWN SHARES

Kazakhmys PLC announces that on 20 December 2011 it purchased from J.P. Morgan Securities Ltd. 114,782 ordinary shares at an average price of 871.6491 pence per share. The highest price paid was 890.0 pence per share and the lowest price paid was 845.5 pence per share. The purchased shares will be held as treasury shares. Following the above purchase, Kazakhmys PLC holds 5,361,103 ordinary shares in treasury and has 530,056,858 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares).
