Transaction in own shares

SOCO announces that on 19 December 2011 it purchased 60,934 of its ordinary shares at an average price of 281.5851 pence per ordinary share. The highest price and the lowest price paid for these shares were 287.1 pence and 281.50 pence respectively. All the purchased shares will be held as Treasury shares.

Following the above purchase, SOCO holds 1,507,852 ordinary shares as Treasury shares. The total number of ordinary shares in issue is 339,031,600 (excluding ordinary shares held as treasury shares).
