Anglo American PLC02 May 2006 Anglo American plc (the "Company") Purchases of shares in Anglo American plc Further to the announcement of 23 March 2006 (a copy of which is available onthe Company's website), Anglo American plc purchased 550,000 of its ordinaryshares on 28 April 2006 at prices between £22.95 and £23.64 per share. Thepurchased shares will all be held as treasury shares. Anglo American plc also announces that on 28 April 2006 the independent companyreferred to in the announcement of 23 March 2006 purchased 170,072 ordinaryshares of Anglo American plc at prices equivalent to between £23.02 and £23.51per share. Following the above transactions, Anglo American plc holds 13,561,702 ordinaryshares in treasury, and has 1,514,415,236 ordinary shares in issue (excludingtreasury shares) and the independent company holds 1,219,474 ordinary shares,representing 0.08 per cent of Anglo American plc's ordinary shares in issue(excluding treasury shares).
