Transaction in own shares

Thomas Cook Group plc announces that on 30 September 2008 it purchased 1,000,000 ordinary shares for cancellation. The highest price paid per share was 222.0 pence (excluding expenses) and the lowest price paid was 196.8 pence (excluding expenses).

As a result of these purchases Thomas Cook Group plc will purchase 1,119,362 ordinary shares in aggregate from Arcandor AG and KarstadtQuelle Freizeit GmbH at a price of 213.4098 pence per share, which is the average price paid for the shares reported above.
